Relieving Stress Through Exercise During the COVID-19 Outbreak

by | Apr 2, 2020 | Personal Training

It’s likely, with the current state of the world, that your routine has been significantly impacted. With many of us required to stay home, and local gyms and fitness facilities remaining closed, making physical activity a priority can seem like a struggle. But did you know that moving could be one of the best things you can do for your physical and mental health during these uncertain times? Exercise has been shown to have positive impacts on both physical and mental health. Since we’ve all been thrown into a state of stress, maintaining your workout routine is more crucial than ever to help yourself let go of some of that worry and improve your overall health.

Can Exercise Help Relieve Depression?

Many people may be struggling with the uncertainty that the COVID-19 outbreak has thrust upon our society. From the closure of schools and businesses to having to remain distant from friends and family members, the upheaval we’re experiencing can lead to depression and anxiety. Exercise can be a key in alleviating those feelings or at least lightening the mental load. According to research, strength training and exercise can significantly reduce depression in as little as 10 weeks. Even for those who haven’t been officially diagnosed as depressed, during these stressful times everyone can use a little pick me up. When it seems like everything else is out of your control, staying focused on your health and exercising can be a big stress reliever!

Bring Your Workout Home with Loyalty Fitness

We know that during this time you are unable to get to the gym, but there are lots of things you can do at home to get your workout on. Many people are taking this newfound time to go for walks in their neighborhoods. This is a great start and good warm-up before you get down to your planned workout. Just because you don’t have weight machines available to you doesn’t mean you can’t strength train, we have taken our one on one training virtual! You do not need any special equipment; we can guide you through a full body workout with just your own body weight or some simple household items. If you do have equipment at home, we can incorporate that. Our services are still live and one on one so our trainers can correct your form and challenge you.

Keep an Eye on Your Diet

During stressful times, many people turn to food or alcohol for comfort which can push you further from your health and fitness goals and toward that “down” feeling. Since we’re all stuck at home, use your time to continue your pursuit of wellness! We may not have control over what is going on in our world right now, but we do have control over how we treat ourselves. Focusing on health through nutrition and exercise can set our immune systems up to fight off any maladies that may come our way – that’s something that can be useful for all of us now and in the future!

If you’re looking for help with your health and fitness during this period of self-quarantine and social distancing, contact Loyalty Fitness. We are offering Virtual One-on-one Training while our private fitness studios in Greenwich, CT and Syosset, NY are temporarily closed.
